How to read resistor color codes

On a 4-band resistor, the first two bands are significant digits, the third is the multiplier and the fourth is the tolerance. 5-band resistors add a third significant digit for higher precision, and 6-band resistors add a temperature coefficient (ppm/°C) that tells you how much the resistance drifts as the part heats up. Read the resistor with the tolerance band (usually gold or silver, set slightly apart) on the right.
